Poem in Translation 1
By Harish.M.G
Original Sri Purandara Dasa
Chorage Chandrodaya...

Will a burglar appreciate luminous full moon?
Will a prostitute appreciate dawn/bright sunlight?
Will a rascal appreciate glorification of Lord Rama?
What is the use of a beautiful woman who lacks modesty?
What is the use of hymn/song which doesn't glorify the Lord?
It is just whining of a person, lost amidst dense jungle Sri Purandara Vittala

HariChitta Sathya- Supreme Will of Lord Hari.

Will of Lord Hari is the supreme truth
Wishes of man is futile and doesn't stand a chance

To hanker for the fortune of wife and children is man's wish
To keep him unmarried is Hari's Will
To desire for an army of elephants, cavalry and cavalcade is man's wish
To languish a man as a pedestrian is Hari's Will
To long for a pilgrimage is man's wish
To Keep him bed-ridden is Hari's Will
To be a great philanthropist is man's wish
To starve him is Hari's Will
To pine to be an emperor is man's wish
To grant him servile position is Hari's will
To crave for Lord Purandara vittala is man's wish
To drive away all in-auspiciousness is Hari's Will.

Lolalotte - Hollow

Hollow, everything is hollow

Elephants, cavalry are hollow
Army, arms and ammunition are hollow
Company of beautiful women is hollow
Being a great landlord is hollow

Pearls, jewels are hollow
Gold, shade of umbrella, flags, fans, emblems are hollow
Formidable fortress is hollow
Being praised as a efficient ruler is hollow

Thought of people fettering your spirituality is hollow
Friends and relatives are hollow
Even after realization if one doesn't become a devotee of Sri Purandara Vittala- A treasure of Virtues
He is hollow.

Kala Kaledenalla- Time was spent

Time was spent, knowledge wasn't gained
Know not how to respond when Time's call come.

At infancy
Gazing and gaping at mother's breast
Relishing milk and butter
Knowing not the rest
Time was spent

At childhood
Lost in games
Pestering the parents for toffees
Grazing and caring the cows
Time was spent

At youth
Enthralled by lust
Mind manacled by beauties
Flirting and embracing
Time was spent

At old age
At the mercy of sons and daughters
With all the doors shut
Late came the realization
That hands never engaged in the service of the Lord
Eyes never transfixed on Lord Purandara Vittala

Bhooshanake Bhooshanake- Adorable

Adorable!
The Lord residing on the Sheshagiri hill is Adorable!
The bestow er of all benediction, Lord Venkatesha is most adorable!

The tongue chanting the name Sriman Narayana is adorable
The feet on pilgrimage to abodes of Lord Hari is adorable
The home with sacred Tulasi Vrindavana is adorable
The ears constantly listening to pastimes of Sri Vishnu is adorable

The hands generously giving alms is adorable
The man embodying modesty is adorable
The sage propagating the right knowledge is adorable
The wife dedicated to her husband is adorable

The eyes seeing the transcendental form of Sri Ranga is adorable
The head repeatedly bowing down to the Lord is adorable
The neck decked by the sacred Tulasi mala is adorable
Adorable are the names of Ranga Vittala

Adorable! Adorable! Adorable!

Kallusakkare Kolliru- Sweet Sugar Candy

Buy this sugar candy
Only the relished know the taste of this rare sugar candy
Names of the Lotus eyed Sri Krishna is the most delicious sugar candy.

Not to be loaded in carts
Not to be carried and sold
Not to be stored in bags
No fear of tax and tariff being levied
This is a quality and profitable commodity.

Never will it be a loss
Never will it stink or diminish
Nor will it cost a penny even after abundant purchase
Nor will it dwindle by the nibbling of ants
Sugar candy, sugar candy, renowned all over the town.

One need not toil to sell it in fairs
Nor one display it in open markets
It is to be always found on the tongues of the devotees-
Tasted and relished
Sumptuous, sweet, sugar candy.

Poem in Translation 8
By Harish.M.G
Original Sri Purandara Dasa
Neneke Badavano- How am I poor?

How am I poor, How am I a derelict?
When the treasure trove Sri Hari is there for me.

You are the mother who bore me
You are my dearest Friend
You are my closest kinsman
You are everything for me
You are the precious jewels hidden in the chest (pun to be noted)
The best Sri Hari, You are there for me.

You are my sibling
You are the feeder
You give clothes to clad and blankets to cover
You steer wife and children to safer shores
You are the caretaker
A leader who never deserts- You are there for me.

You are the educator
You are the teacher
You are the merciful bestower
My cute Sri Purandara Vittala
Surrendering on to Your Lotus feet
Why should I fear
You are there for me.

Poem in Translation 9
By Harish.M.G
Original Sri Purandara Dasa
Manava Janma Doddadu- Human life is precious

Human life is very precious
Don't you squander it you fools!

For having eyes, hands, legs, ears, tongue
Should you endeavor so hard
To eat mud like an idiot?
Why do you fast from the
Royal regale of Harinama
Assaying for ladies and land?

Will the messengers of Death ever
Heed for your plead?
Before the imminent happens
Indulge in the prescribed duties never
Being lost in the whirlpool of family life.

What forced you to forget the Universal Maintainer?
Can the amassed money, grain, wife, sons
Rescue you from the jaws of Death?
Now, at least now glorify the charming Master Sri Purandara.

Poem in Translation 10
By Harish.M.G
Original Sri Purandara Dasa
Apamanave olithu- Dishonur is desirable

Dishonor is desirable
For the one chanting the superlative Harinama.

From honor sprouts ego
Ego spoils austerities
Ego dusted even the great Duryodhana
What doubt is there for whom honor and ignominy are the same

Dishonor refines austerities,
Pious deeds bear fruits.
Didn't the deluding Lord Krishna
descend to meet dishonored Dhruva?

What shall I do?
Where shall I go?
When You reside with the humble hermits
Saviour of the doomed souls Sri Purandara
Let dishonor alone be mine.

Poem in Translation 11
By Harish.M.G
Original Sri Purandara Dasa
Kottavaru Sariye- Everyone is good.

Those who give are good
Those who banish without giving are also good.

Acceptance by the charitable pious
or rejection by the proud
These make no difference
For one who has taken refuge of
The holy names of the Killer of demons- Lakshmi Pathi

 An emperor is fine
or a beggar is also fine
Man speaking with finesse is fine
Man in fury is also fine
For the one remembering the Lotus feet of Lord Hari.

Will ever the creator let us starve?
The ardent devotee will ever be
Protected by the Lord of hills
Sri Purandara Vittala.

Poem in Translation 12
By Harish.M.G
Original Sri Purandara Dasa
Hari Hari Yennalikke- No Time

No time, no time
To chant the holy names of the Lord
There is no time.
Engulfed in worries
Went waste a life so sublime.

Fasting on the eleventh lunar day (Ekadashi)
worry is of the feast of the next day
For a mendicant
worry is to arrange for vegetables

Worry is of mundane deeds
Worry is of prescribed duties
Worry is of being charitable.

Worry is of the foe, for the armoured
Worry is to stay undecided
Worry is of life for the doer of wrong deeds

Taking a dip in holy Ganges
Worry is of the tumbler kept on the banks
Worry is of deserting fellow pilgrims

There are no worries for the one
chanting the holy names of
Sri Purandara Vittala- Great one resting on Ananthashesha.
